Zakat
Yesterday, I went to Zakat unit of IIUM and paid an amount of RM X00 as my zakat . I felt good and happy. After all, paying zakat is not something that can be done everyday. While I was there waiting for the service there, I remember the old days when we study zakat in middle school. It was like ten years ago and I was still a kid at that time. I had a lot of fun back then, but most of what I remembered yesterday was the lectures on zakat. Zakat is usually translated as "giving alms", and the Arabic root of this word is zaka which means growth, cleanness and blessings. Zakat is the third pillar of Islam which means it is obligatory on every capable Muslim. The hikmah or the objective of zakat is to purify our money as well as purify ourself from stinginess and parsimony.
